Managing Stress During the Holiday Season Webinar
We received another email from AIDE Canada with a link to a video of a webinar they held regarding managing stress. I have posted it to our Resources page.
I don't find the video actually specific to autistic people and that was unfortunate. I think much of the stress experienced by autistic people comes from the expectations non autistic people and that wasn't really mentioned. Additionally they talk about when to seek help for anxiety and stress, isolation, etc but no suggestions on where to find any help or support.
I already know I need support and have known for years but I have no idea where to find any help. That's a big part of why I started this website in hopes of finding others like me and maybe we can support each other :) Anyway here's the email:
"Greetings
I’m writing today as a representative from AIDE Canada, as I feel I have a resource that could be used within your community. As a collective, we are curating some of our content and sending it out to groups that we feel could benefit from it.
We all know that the stress of the holidays can be anything but jolly. What if there was a way to navigate and diffuse some those feelings? The holidays can be an incredibly stressful time for many of us, including individuals with autism. Understanding stress and how it affects the body is an important step in the beginning to learn how to manage it. Today I have linked a workshop, that will give you a solid foundation of knowledge about stress, will provide insight into the unique challenges autistic individuals face when managing stress, and will provide strategies to support you in navigating the holidays.
This workshop was developed by the Centre for Autism Services Alberta’s Occupational Therapists in collaboration with a self-advocate (who will guide the lived-experience perspective of managing stress)
Below is a link to the webinar created for your perusal. Please pass it around to those you feel may benefit from it. We also have many other toolkits, webinars, articles, and infographics regarding stress and many other topics you may find helpful on our website.

Other helpful resources included on the website are:
a free, nation-wide lending library
a database of articles and research summaries focused on autism and/or intellectual disability
a national map of autism and/or intellectual disability programs and services
a calendar of events, including on-demand streaming of past recorded webinars,
and several other features that we hope will be very valuable to our community. The direction and applications of the site were developed after many months of community consultations, quantitative surveys and focus groups with autistic self-advocates, parents, family members, service providers and educators.
