Standing Committee for Health and Social Development
Georgina is hoping "to speak at the Standing Committee for Health and Social Development about being autistic on PEI." She has created a list of topics, etc., and is "hoping to get on the agenda before the legislative assembly breaks for the summer."
Please review the information below and the google doc attached as she'd love to have any feedback, input, or comments for this important initiative. Maybe you could add a topic, add to a topic, or add background info to help explain the importance of a topic.
"Here is the list of topics so far:
The current definition of autism
The autism model that is used to make policy decisions needs updating to reflect the autistic adults living in our communities who don’t quite fit the old model
Introducing our community
Background on being autistic on PEI, numbers, demographics, ways we are supporting ourselves, etc
Healthcare
The urgent need for healthcare professionals to learn our potential challenges in accessing medical treatments and care
Supports
The critical gap in support for autistic youth's transition to adulthood
The opportunity for creative supports using existing community resources
Acceptance
What we would like to see in the future for the province for autistic acceptance."
She has also started a Google document for the purpose of discussion and feedback.
Please add your comments, suggestions, feedback, etc., below or send to peiautisticadults@gmail.com and I will compile and send to Georgina.
Thanks @everyone!

As mentioned, my recommendations pertain to older adults and seniors. Comments or feedback on those or other age groups are most welcome. You can comment below or email. Thanks!
