Alternatives to the Weekly Meeting

I would like to encourage anyone who would like to connect with other neurodivergent folks to do so. I’m told some find it easy to meet people –you just have to put yourself out there.

Hopefully, people have updated or will update their profiles to make it easier to find others with similar interests and challenges. It may be easier to connect with others with the same neurotype(s).

There are currently 148 members in this group and many ways to connect with each other. You can contact like-minded members directly using chat or post more generally in the group chat, forum or main group. Good luck!

For those who’d like to connect with others unrelated to autism here are some links to self-help and community organizations:

Just an fyi. I’ve given up hosting meetings on Saturday afternoons rather than continue to stress myself out every week.

It was silly of me to have tried to do this - I’m monotropic, straightforward, and focused. I have difficulty with verbal communication, and I experience autistic social anxiety. I need to know what to expect, and I can't deal with unexpected changes. My intention for the meetings was to provide a welcoming and accepting environment for autistic people with similar challenges to enjoy a fun couple of hours as described in the agenda.

However due to the challenges mentioned, I’m unable to do that. My apologies to anyone who came to the meeting expecting what was described in the agenda.

Details re December 30, 2023 meeting

Our agenda: Greetings to each other and a brief optional round table of personal updates.

Our autism discussion: Continuing our discussion from last week about autistic burnout recovery.  "Recovery from autistic burnout requires reducing expectations and doing things in an autistic way. This means finding safe and supportive environments/people, unmasking, allowing ourselves to live authentically, and honouring our autistic needs." from Embrace. I'm hoping that our meeting will be that 'safe and supportive environment' for anyone experiencing burnout or stress including me. We can share strategies on recovering from burnout/overwhelm, discuss what it means "to live authentically honouring our autistic needs", and learn how to unmask. "High levels of masking is a primary cause for poor mental health in autistics."

After that I thought we could talk about the holiday season and the upcoming new year and what that means to you. Do you enjoy the season or are you counting the days…

Often autistic people are unaware or have difficulty with their interoception signals:
