Meditation & Other Self Care

Meditation

There are many types of meditation. I don't think one is better than another, I think it's probably just a matter of finding what works for you. Two of the most popular are Mantra meditation and Mindfulness meditation. These articles describe the differences Mantra Practice vs. Mindfulness Mindfulness vs Mantra Meditation. What are the differences?

I identify with the second article because I tried mindfulness first but couldn't seem to 'get it' and then found deep meditation on the AYP website. But after letting that go when I burned out, Jill turned me on to mindfulness again, and I liked it alot.

Probably the most well known mantra meditation is Transcendental meditation (TM). It's expensive - $1400+ and since there's no TM center in PEI, the TM teacher comes to your home. Neither of those things worked for me. I found instructions on the Advanced Yoga Practices Plus website for deep meditation. The website is a mess but if you wander around you can find many yoga practices that promote relaxation and stimulate the vagus nerve. Or you can go to their new website if you want to subscribe or take a course https://www.advanced-yoga-practices-academy.com/

Mindfulness is more popular, I think, and there are many practices to follow. Tara Brach is great and InsightTimer has many teachers to pick from...I like Susan Blondin there too. I just go to the websites instead of paying for the apps. Or do a search on youtube. There is also mindfulness on the AYP website but its called Vipassana.

There are other types I've tried that I'll add later and I hope others will add their favourite meditations or other types of self care.

You are warmly invited to celebrate this day that the UN created to help people everywhere pause, reconnect, and experience the universal benefits of meditation.

To join the global wave, simply meditate or sit easily with eyes closed at 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM local time, aligning with millions around the world in shared silence and calm.

A 33-hour livestream will also be running on YouTube for those who wish to tune in throughout the day.

We hope you’ll take a few moments on December 21 to experience the clarity, rest, and inner peace that meditation can bring.
