Engagement

I’m going to post this to the forum and main group to hopefully reach more members as notifications aren’t working properly.

I would like to know if you have suggestions on how to increase engagement and interaction with the group? We have 169 site members now but most don’t comment or post, so I’m hoping you will share what you’d like to see on the website or do with the other group members. What were you hoping to see and/or do when you joined the group? When I started this, my hope was that members would make friends and friendly acquaintances with others who shared their interests and interact on and off line.

Please comment here or send an email to peiautisticadults@gmail.com with your suggestions.

I’m also wondering what to do with the forum. As you may know the forum is being discontinued so if we wish to keep that content,…

The End of the Forum - Oh No!

I received this message from WIX which is the website building platform whose template I used to create this site:

"Move your forum to Wix Groups

We’re writing to let you know that Wix Forum will soon be discontinued. You can move your forum to Wix Groups to keep your data and maintain core functionality on your site. This change is a part of our ongoing efforts to give our users the best possible experience. To ensure your community stays active and functional, here’s what you need to know:

What’s happening:

• Starting June 1, 2025, Wix Forum functionality will be limited. You’ll no longer be able to create new posts in the Forum, either through your dashboard or on your live site.

• On September 1, 2025, Wix Forum will be completely disabled and removed from all Wix websites."

The dates on this have already changed:

"As of April 15th, 2025 Wix Forum will no longer be available in the App Market. If you already have it on your site, posts can be created until October 15th 2025. After that there will be limited functionality until March 1st, 2026 when the Wix Forum app will be deleted from your site."

Guidelines review

We're going to discuss this at the meeting on Saturday but I wanted all members to have the opportunity to comment even if they're not attending Saturday's meeting.

I wanted to celebrate my recent diagnosis with a review and discussion of our Participation Guidelines, pasted below, and hopefully update and/or streamline them. And also discuss what action(s) should be taken when the guidelines/intentions are violated  - I'm not good at that so I'm really looking for some help there :)

The point of the guidelines is to ensure a comfortable and welcoming environment for all members. Autistic people are not all the same. Besides the unique profiles we have, most autistic people have one or more co-occurring conditions, and our varying ages ensure we’ve had different life experiences with regard to autism. It is difficult to accurately understand another’s inner experience and because of that, we should listen and learn…

Autistic Comedians

Humor saves me! On a regular basis I watch stand up, read funny books, etc. I’m starting to seek out the work of autistic comedians. Is there anyone you’d recommend? Reading a book by stand up autistic comic Michael McCreary at the moment (library book if anyone’s interested!).

Here’s his Autism nutrition facts :)

I love comedy and I agree it saves me. I want to add comedy to the self-care section. Seinfeld thinks all comedians are on the spectrum…I’m not sure about that but I do think there are a lot. We spend so much time studying NT’s behaviour. Better to laugh than cry.

One comedian I like as a pick me up is Jim Gaffigan. He has lots of specials on Netflix and Prime so I can binge a few if I need to. And his comedy is mainly just silly. I used to enjoy the political humour on the late night shows but it stopped being funny for me after Trump was elected. John Mulaney is another good one with lots of specials on Netflix.
